A Literature Review on Teaching Play Skill for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract
The difficulty, which children with autism spectrum disorder are facing in playing, is related to their core deficit characteristics, and the importance of intervention on play skill is on the increase although the current research on teaching play skills are limited. This research observed the intervention on play of children with autism spectrum disorder by reviewing 14 experimental studies published outside the nation in the last decade. We found out that there has been continuous research on play intervention targeting the children with autism spectrum disorder. Moreover, it turned out that symbolic play and social play was frequently conducted on behavioral approach and video-modeling intervention was most frequently used. Based on these results, we discussed on the future research and the best practices in the field of education in Korea regarding teaching play skills to children with autism spectrum disorder.
